Dr. Edwin M. Montell MD

Background
Dr. Montell has served on the Board of Directors of the Bay Clinic since 2008. Dr. Montell is a physician with Gastroenterology Associates in Hilo. He also is on the Medical Staff at Hilo Medical Center and is on the Executive Committee the Hawaii Medical Services Association (HMSA) Board of Directors where he serves as Secretary. Dr. Montell is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology. He is an active member of the American Association of Ambulatory Health Centers, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association, and the Christian Medical and Dental Society. Some of his past administrative positions include Chief of Medicine at King Faisal Hospital, President of Hilo Medical Group, Chair of the Department of Medicine at the Hilo Medical Center, and Chief of Medical Staff at the Hilo Medical Center. He has worked as a physician in Hilo since 1979. His education includes a Bachelor of Science from Boston College, M.D. Degree from the New Jersey College of Medicine, and Residencies at D.C. General Hospital and Case Western Reserve University Hospital.

Some of his past community activities include Board of Directors Memberships of Hospice of Hilo, Hilo Residency Training Program, Care-A-Van, Founding Director of Habitat of Hilo, and Founding Member of Hilo Coalition for the Homeless, Board of Trustees of St. Joseph's School, and memberships in the Hawaii Island Economic Development Board for Science and Technology. He is currently a Board member of the East Hawaii Independent Physicians Association.

Personal Statement
"I want to contribute my perspective as a health care provider to Bay Clinic and share my experience in improving quality and overseeing quality improvement for both my office, medical facility, and as a part of HMSA."
